Bio

Great to meet you!

I’m Gabby Oblena, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and a National Certified Counselor. My primary therapeutic approach is to create a space where clients can fully embrace their humanity, even in a world that often doesn’t make room for it. Together, we’ll meet you where you are. I specialize in helping clients navigate depression, anxiety, stress, identity exploration, and life transitions, drawing on experience from diverse settings including community mental health, advocacy, outpatient care, and youth services.

I became a therapist to be the kind of person my younger self needed—someone who offers a safe space to feel deeply, embrace vulnerability, regulate overwhelming emotions, and nurture both self‐compassion and compassion for others. My hope is to be that person for my clients, maybe even for you. As a Filipina‐American and second‐generation immigrant, I also hold space for how culture and intergenerational trauma can shape mental health and identity.

When I’m not in session, you’ll likely find me with a book in hand, playing video games, napping, or laughing along to Bob’s Burgers. I’m often cuddling my cat, Martian—or trying to keep him from scratching where he shouldn’t. And despite being lactose intolerant, you can count on me to say yes to mac & cheese and ice cream.

A bit about my approach to therapy

My counseling style is holistic, non-judgmental, and eclectic. Clients can expect a conversational approach that fosters a sense of safety and being truly seen and heard. I also like to bring in humor and a relaxed, down-to-earth tone to help create a comfortable and supportive space.

What you can expect from our first session

I take a person-centered approach, focusing on your unique experiences and strengths. If we work together, my hope is that you’ll gain comfort with vulnerability, recognize your capacity for lasting resilience, build healthier relationships with yourself and others, and find support in untangling whatever feels overwhelming or complex.
